A Facelift versus Botox and Fillers: Which to Choose?

A Facelift versus Botox and Fillers: Which to Choose?

When you want to rejuvenate your look, you have more cosmetic choices than ever. Cosmetic injectables like Botox® and dermal fillers bring immediate smoothing and plumping to wrinkled and hollowed features. But, a facelift is still a tried-and-true solution to take years off your look.

How do you decide which procedures are right for you? Here at Lansdowne Aesthetic Center, in Leesburg/Ashburn, Virginia, cosmetic surgeon Yaqub Baraki, MD, offers the following guidance to help you choose.

What are the effects of Botox?

Botox can smooth wrinkles, especially those in the upper face like worry lines between the brows and crow’s feet around the eyes. Those these smoothing effects are dramatic, Botox does not plump hollowed areas of your cheeks nor can it lift sagging skin.

What are the effects of dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers contain compounds that plump your skin, smooth lines and wrinkles, and promote collagen production. The injections can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and depressed scars. They also add volume to hollowed cheeks and thin lips.

What are the effects of a facelift?

A facelift offers a comprehensive youth-enhancing effect. The surgical procedure lifts sagging skin – including that around your jowls – and tightens weak facial muscles. A facelift also smooths wrinkles, including deep creases that dermal fillers and Botox can’t resolve.

A facelift is customized to you, but the goals are usually to bring back:

And, with the impeccable, artistic skills of Dr. Baraki, you get all of these benefits without a look of being “operated on.”

Are you ready to commit to recovery?

Botox and dermal fillers require no notable recovery time. The results of Botox are noticeable within 7-14 days, and the effects of most fillers are visible right away. If you have mild-to-moderate signs of aging, these cosmetic injectables are a good choice. You get impressive results without time off from work or daily activity.

A facelift is a major surgical procedure. Depending on the extent of your facelift, recovery can range from a few weeks to a few months. Your results aren’t fully visible until swelling and scarring have gone away. But, a facelift can do so much more for your look than cosmetic injectables if you have deep wrinkles and sagging skin.

Do you want lasting results?

The wrinkle-reducing effects of Botox last about three to four months. After that you need to get additional treatments to maintain your new look. Fillers’ effects last longer – anywhere from 6-18 months depending on the formula used, the area treated, and your body’s reaction – but still require periodic retreatments.

The effects of a facelift, however, can last 8-10 years. You can’t halt all aging with a facelift, but you can significantly slow it down.

What about the financial cost?

A facelift is considerably more expensive than Botox and dermal filler injections, but the effects are long-lasting, so it’s an investment in your future. Botox and dermal filler injections require multiple repeat sessions that add up over time.

We are ready to support you in your anti-aging quest no matter your choice of service. If you’re ready to explore facial rejuvenation, call Lansdowne Aesthetic Center to set up an appointment. You can also arrange your consultation using this website.
