How Is Laser Liposuction Better Than Traditional Liposuction?

If you have stubborn pockets of fat, but don’t want to go through traditional liposuction, you’re in luck. Lansdowne Aesthetic Center offers a new and improved way to shed unwanted fat: laser liposuction.

Unlike traditional liposuction, you won’t need to worry about anesthesia, downtime for recovery, or sagging skin after laser liposuction. Best of all, laser liposuction only takes about one hour for an end-to-end appointment.

Keep reading to learn why Dr. Yaqub Baraki of Lansdowne Aesthetic Center loves laser liposuction and offers it as the optimal body sculpting procedure.

How does laser liposuction work?

Laser liposuction is also called laser lipolysis. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat from lasers at various wavelengths to destroy the fat cells deep beneath your skin. The heat kills fat cells, and your body sheds the dead fat cells over time. Most patients see optimal results one to three months after treatment, though you’ll see some results right away.

Laser liposuction vs. traditional liposuction

Traditional liposuction works by suctioning fat out of certain areas on your body. It requires incisions and anesthesia, as well as significant downtime for recovery. During traditional liposuction, your surgeon injects a mixture of saline water, lidocaine (an anesthetic), and epinephrine (a drug to make your blood vessels constrict) into your treatment area. Then, your surgeon makes incisions and inserts a cannula through which the fat travels as it is suctioned out by a vacuum.

Laser liposuction, on the other hand, requires no incisions or anesthesia, and you’ll need very little downtime for recovery. During laser liposuction, Dr. Baraki uses the ProLipo Plus system from Sciton to heat the fat cells underneath your skin. The heat essentially melts your fat cells, which your body sheds as waste. Once fat cells are killed, they don’t regenerate, so your results will be permanent as long as your weight remains stable.

Perhaps the most significant difference is that laser liposuction stimulates new collagen production because of the heat, which results in tighter, healthier-looking skin in addition to fat loss — an added bonus.

Is laser liposuction safe?

Yes — the ProLipo Plus system that Dr. Baraki uses at his clinic is 100% safe and FDA-approved for treating the chin and neck, upper arms, upper back, abdomen, love handles, hips, waist, thighs, buttocks, insides of knees, and chest.
